App Purchases & Upgrades: Are they Subscriptions (Recurring Charges), or a One-Time Purchase?

Find Dictionary.com free mobile apps, which have optional upgrades or in-app purchases after a free download, here: Free iOS and Free Android. And Dictionary.com's separate Pro/Premium app are for sale in the App and Play Stores: Pro iOS and Premium Android.

Purchases of a Dictionary.com Premium app, and purchases of in-app purchases/upgrades from within our Free apps, are not currently offered via a subscription model (subject to changes in the future). This means that purchases of our Pro/Premium apps, and upgrades/in-app purchase from our free apps, are not subscriptions/recurring charges and are a one-time purchase*.

Notes*:

  • One-time purchase for the life-time of that in-app purchase (i.e.: as long as we provide/support that app or in-app purchase upgrade).
  • Purchases are not eligible for us in the App Stores "Family Sharing" or the Play Store's "Family Library"
  • Provided you are using the same App/Play Store account you use to make the original purchase.
    • Purchases do not work across our apps. For example, you can't make a purchase of our Pro app and access the same features in our Free app- you won't see your purchases there, the purchases only apply to the specific app you paid for.
    • App purchases and in-app purchases do not apply to our Dictionary.com or Thesaurus.com websites. App purchases won't change your website experiences. For example, if you buy a no-ads experience on the app, you'd still see ads on our website
    • Purchases cannot be moved across app store or play store accounts. They are solely tied to the store account under-which you made the original purchase. If you no longer have access to the purchasing account, you won't be able to use your purchases; in this case you need to make a new purchase in your new App or Play Store account.
  • If you move from one store type to the other (e.g.- from the App Store to the Play Store) your purchase won't transfer to that new account. In this case, you would need to make a new purchase on the new store for your new device and operating system.
